Bhai Manj Da khooh, Sultanvind
GURUDWARA
SHRI BHAI MANJ DA KHOOH is situated in Sultanvind Distt. Amritsar Bhai Manj
Sahib Ji whose real name was " Tiratha" , was a fore runner &
preacher of this sultanate. He had " Sakhi Sarvar Da Peerkhana " at
his home. Tiratha used to visit " Nigahe Sarvar Pir " every year. He
was the "Chaudhary" of the village. "Chaudhary" is the
owner of the village. He was very rich & was a well known person. Bhai Manj
Ji was a resident of village Kang Mai ( Distt. Hoshiarpur) & had two "
Peerkhana's " at his place. Every thursday he used to offer bread (rot) at
the "Peerkhana" & used to take his devotees for preaching.
Sometimes he used to take his jatha ( group of devotees) to "Nigaha".
In the year 1585, when Bhai ji was going back to his village from "
Nigaha" , he stayed at Amritsar. At Amritsar, in the company of SHRI GURU
ARJUN DEV JI, he learnt about his living , life of Sikhs & preachings of
" Satguru" which made him stay back at Amritsar. He had not seen such
happiness, bloom & recogonition in his life. He also asked the
"Satguru" to grant him "Sikhism" to which GURU ARJUN DEV JI
replied " Purkha, Sikhi utte Sikhi nahin tikdi ". He asked him to
firstly get rid off all the things which go against Sikhism, only then he will
be able to accomplish Sikhism. When you follow AKAL PURAKH'S footsteps &
follow the path of truth, you will need to tolerate the anger of common man
also. So if you can give such a sacrifice, only then you can go along with
Sikhism. Bhai Manj ji came back to his village & first of all destroyed the
"Peerkhana" & stopped praying to " Sakhi Sarvar ". Fate
took such a turn that his cattle started dying but still Bhai Ji remained
unshaken, kept working with his full faith in AKAL PURAKH. After that he was
taken off from the position of leader of the village due to complaints recieved
from people but he remained steady. Then Bhai Manj Ji came to GURU ARJUN DEV JI
& indulged himself into serving the "Guru Ghar". Like this , he
began to earn Sikhism. He took the job of collecting wood for public kitchen.
Everyday, after listening to the Guru's preachings & prayers, he used to go
to the jungle to collect wood & while roaming he used to say that need not
worry if false money has gone away, I have earned the true money. Bhai Manj Ji
used to collect wood from a jungle near " Sultan Wind ", where the
Gurudwara has been built now. Such happened one day that when Bhai Ji was
coming back to Amritsar with wood above his head, strong winds struck on the way.
Bhai Ji kept walking taking care of the wood, a strong blow of wind struck him
& he fell into a well. The well was shallow & the water level was also
low. Bhai ji kept the wood above his head to make sure that they don't get wet.
He kept standing in the well the whole night & kept reciting the holy
prayers. On the other side, when Guru Ji found that Bhai Manj Ji had not
returned last night, he looked for him & found him inside a well. GURU
ARJUN DEV JI along with his Sikhs ran towards the well & wanted to take
Bhai Ji out by throwing a rope to which Bhai Ji replied that they should take
out the wood first so that the public kitchen food could be cooked. Then only
Bhai Manj Ji was taken out. Just when Bhai Ji was coming out, Guru Ji hugged
him & recited & a shlok
" Manj Pyara Guru ko, Guru Manj Pyara ||
Manj Guru Bohitha Jug Langanhara"||
& GURU SAIHIB told Bhai Manj Ji that he has passed his test & could ask for anything he wishes to which Bhai Ji asked that he should never sway out of Sikhism & that he is able to follow the Sikh way of Life. GURU SAHIB replied that you are already into Sikhism, ask for something else to which Bhai Ji requested GURU SAHIB to never put any Sikh through such tough tests as it is "Kalyug's" time & Sikhs won't be able to take such tests. Also don't take away the public kitchen food to which GURU SAHIB replied that whatever you say would be accomplished & Guru Ji sent him to his home in Hoshiarpur to preach Sikhism.

History of Gurdwara Kotha Sahib (Guru Ka
Kotha) Vallah, Amritsar
The
village Vallah is situated along the Mehta Road and is at a distance of 6 k.m.
from Sri Amritsar. Vallah is at a distance of 3 k.m. from Verka.
Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji had made
Kiratpur Sahib the center of the preaching of the religion leaving Amritsar. In
1664 A.D. after attaining the apostiteship/Gurgaddi Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib
accompanied by Bhai Makhan Shah Lubhana, Bhai Dwarka Dass and Bhai Garrhia
reached Sri Amritsar to visit his great center Sri Harmandir Sahib. The Guru
had the holy dip in the holy tank (Srovar). Hari Ji Sodhi, Baba Prithi Chand
Meena’s grandson the manager of that time had already eoitnessed the bad fate
met to Baba Dhir Mal & Baba Bakala. So being terrified he after locking the
sight worthy doors of Sri Harmandir Sahib and euro wing the keys into the holy
tank he went to his village Heyer. After bowing his forehead from the very
outside, after sitting beneath a Beri (tree) for some movements, the tree lying
to one side at the right direction of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, went to Vallah. Reacting
to this evil deed of the priests Bhai Makhan Shah Lubhana after breaking the
locks opened the doors and amended profoundly the abstinent priests and the
priests for seeking pardon of their deed approached the Guru at Vallah. Their
the Guru, uttered these words. He put the priests to shame by stating: What
sort of the administrators of Sri Darbar Sahib you are that in spite of living
in the source of nectar your mind are burning with lust:
Neh Masand tum amritsareeye.
Trishnagan te andar sarreeye.
Those mothers eoho reached Vallah from
Amritsar to represent in the Guru’s service requested to return to his own Guru
Darbar and take charge of the administration of the same. Then the Guru seeing
their true reliance stated:
‘Maaeeabn rabb rajaeeaan, bhagtee
laaeean.’
i.e. ‘the mothers are made satisfied by
the creator. God himself has assigned them the meditation.’
‘Vallah Guru ka Galla’
‘The village ‘Vallah’ is the moneybox of
the Guru.’
These were the blessings showered by the
Guru. The Guru Passessed the virtues of renunciation, generosity and natural
intuition. He had not any touch of temptation for capturing the Guru, Darbar
and offerings.
‘Jithae jaaei bahae mera satguru so than
suhava ram raaje’
He went to Mata Haro’s home situated to
the eastern side of Vallah. She served him from the care of her heart.
When the priests the sinners beheld the
Guru gone to that side they hastily open the doors and sat in Darbar Sahib. In
the meantime Bhai Makhan Shah too aftertaking the holy dips into the Ramsar,
The Kaulsar, The Bibeksar and Santokhsar, the pilgrimages came to visit Sri
Darbar Sahib. When he heard that after beholding the evil designs of the
priests the Guru had left the holy place and that the priests had dishonored
the Guru he showed his at most anger. He in the first phase eoantet that the
priests should be punished for their evil deed and turned out but then he
contempt lated calmly that the Guru was a person without any worldly desire.
‘Suppose I do this without his concentration it will not be a den cent thing’
was his later developed idea. So after chiding and scolding them he too reached
Vallah and saw the Guru. When this was the talk-of-the-town beloved six and the
nice mother repented much. All trembling excessively at the very amrit vela
i.e. the earliest point of the day set out at a fast pace and reached the place
and with the almost meekness caught hold of the Guru’s holy feet seeking
pardon. They produced a heap offering some materials and requesting from the
care of their heart and they were pardoned. Beholding their true reliance and
dedication the Guru blessed them: ‘Maaeeabn rabb rajaeeaan, bhagtee laaeean.’
And ‘Vallah Guru ka Galla’.
After showering the aforesnentioned
blessings the Guru stayed here fore seventeen days. The Guru’s beloved coming
from Amritsar put forward very emotional appeals but the Guru did not go their
and he stated; ‘I would not earn the livelihood by being the priest of the
temples. This behavior is the work of the jackles, not of the lions. The material
which is placed as an offering before any idol, temples, scripture, goddess,
god the consumption of the same in the worshiped material. That worshiped
material or money being the light of the other spoils the consumer’s thinking.
The money earned by one’s own manual labor is worth to use by oneself by
purchasing eatables and eating the same. The eatables thus because of the
product of one’s honest means is sacred.
